Calgary BMX Jr. Coaching Program
What is it?
The Jr. Coaching Program is an opportunity for our older riders to volunteer as a Jr. Coach with the younger riders, providing support, encouragement and mentorship to our up & coming BMX superstars.
Who can volunteer?
Riders who are age 13 and over who have been riding for 2+ years!
why should i be a jr. coach?
There are two fantastic reasons to join this program - being a mentor/role model for younger riders AND getting valuable volunteer experience for your resume or university application!
I am a very busy rider - do I have the time to commit to this program?
Yes you do! Our season starts at approx the beginning of May and goes until approx mid-September, meaning we have 18 weeks with two practice sessions a week - that is 36 opportunities! We would appreciate if you could commit to a minimum of 5 practice sessions but will absolutely sign you up for more if you are willing! We are more than happy to work around your schedule as well.
Wait - I am not an Expert rider, can I still participate in the program?
Yes! We will have riders of all levels that would love mentorship, so having a few years riding experience and a great attitude is a fantastic start.
I’m interested - What can I expect?
To participate in the program, you will first need to fill out the application form found above/below. We want to know a bit more about you! The deadline for this application is April 15, 2023. After that, you can expect to attend a mandatory orientation where we will discuss the specifics of a Jr.Coaches involvement on practice nights. (ie: holding tires, helping with the stand stance, providing positive and constructive feedback). This will give you an opportunity to ask questions, meet the other Coaches and meet the folks running the program.
I am a Jr or Elite rider that can’t commit to that many sessions, but would still love to be involved, what should I do?
