Message From The President
Greetings to ALL!!!
Firstly I would like to thank all the current Executive, Officers and members for your continued support and efforts with volunteering and enabling Calgary BMX to continue to grow and build on our already exciting/fun programs and racing.
The Calgary BMX Executive would like to propose a Mission Statement that builds on the values of Trust, Loyalty, Success, Teamwork, Socializing, Collaboration, Competition, Skill Building and most of all “FUN”.
Proposed Mission Statement:
- To create and maintain a family oriented sports atmosphere where all levels of BMX racers from Novice to Elite have the opportunity to have fun and excel to their greatest potential.
We understand that building a Mission Statement for our club is an important step to assist in the focus of our activities and it should include comment from ALL Members prior to being adopted. Due to the heavy “Work/Life” schedules of all, and the potential lengthy process to achieve a Mission Statement, please send your comments regarding the proposed Mission Statement and process to
our President. I will respond to all comments and set up a formal process if necessary.
I, as President will commit myself to the following:
i. Focus on the Club’s purpose
ii. Make myself available to ALL Members at all times to assist in any way possible
iii. Most of all – I commit to having FUN!!!
A core value that I have is “It’s all about the relationships we build with each other and the open communication that comes from this!"
I can’t believe it is already half way through June and we are well into National racing with the Provincial Series starting in the next few weeks! As well, the Canadian Championships are only a week away with many Calgary Riders Qualified and planning to attend. Good luck to all riders going to Kingston, Ontario next week! We are very proud of all of you and your accomplishments. Win or not, do your best, have fun, and show them what Calgary BMX has to offer with your great skills and your amazing friendly attitudes!!!
There are a few items I would also like to clarify for those who do not already know:
Training – There has been a slight change in the method of providing training and does not affect the quality or quantity we are already benefiting from. As Calgary BMX is a non-profit organization, the Executive has voted that the club is only going to provide volunteer based training for our Novice through Elite Riders. Any form of payment for training will be a separate agreement between Riders and Coaches offering training for a fee.
The current training schedule is as follows:
|
Monday |
Damien Bisette – Dingo Racing cost = $125 a month per Rider. Please contact
Damien for further details Cell (403)890-9826 |
|
Tuesday |
Novice and Intermediate Training with Coach Michilla Negenman and Assistant
Coach TAZ Vergara. 6pm-7:30pm
Expert Training with Damien Bisette – 7:30pm till
you drop, around 9pm |
|
Wednesday |
Open track for Junior and Elite Riders – 6pm till approx 8pm |
|
Friday |
Training for all levels of Riders is being proposed by Michilla Negenman and TAZ
Vergara – Michilla and TAZ are currently looking to see if there is an interest
for a paid coaching clinic on Friday Nights. You can see them on the track for
more information or Email our Head Coach for more information. |
Open Officer Positions – Calgary BMX is currently seeking volunteers for the positions of Bingo Coordinator and Volunteer Coordinator. Please contact
Steve for more information if you are interested. These positions do not take very much time and are vital to the continued success of our District Races and fundraising program. There also fun to do!!
Work Parties and Track Changes – Trent Batchelor, our Track Director, has proposed some exciting changes to the first straight at our track for 2009 to keep it interesting for our Riders. Please watch for notifications regarding dates and times in the next few weeks and volunteer as much as you can. Together we can continue to have a track that is world class in design and appearance. Please contact
Trent for more information.
Social Events – We will be holding a few Saturday night social events at the track soon that will include Night Racing, Fire Pit, Camping at the Track, BBQ, and of course, other socially acceptable refreshments you may bring in your coolers. Please send any fun ideas for Social Events to
Steve. You can never have too much fun!
Club Meetings – Due to the heavy schedule of out of town racing over the next three weeks, we are proposing our first Club Meeting for the first or second week of July. Please watch the news for dates and locations to be scheduled soon. The Club meetings are very important to all and a high priority for myself.
I understand that there may be other questions or comments ranging from “How do I race?” to “Where is the Year End Party going to be?” and everything in between. Please feel free to contact me at (403)701-2467 or e-mail at any time and I will either have the answers you are seeking, or find them as quickly as I can.
All of Calgary BMX’s Executive and Officers are very knowledgeable and approachable. You can also speak to them at the track or through the contact email on our website for the information you need.
Sincerely, Steve Glass – President Calgary BMX
Let’s have a great season and cheers to all!
Thanks to our incredible Track Supporters!
